
Georgian Era, circa 1760, enamel bodkin case decorated with two pastoral scenes within raised gold rococo scrolls on a white ground and the French words “Secret en Amour” or Secret in love. Bodkin cases were used for large sewing like needles that were used for pulling lace or ribbon through holes on a garment for securing closed. Sometimes a billet-doux was used to deliver secret love letters within. The pull off top has a brass tube base within. English, Bilston, South Straffordshire.
