early 18th century (1730 – 1740’s) French, possibly Lyons,
silk brocade from the Naturalism period. A rich ground of blue silk with islands depicting a castle surrounded by large flowers and leaves woven in polychrome silk threads. The colored silks show a prime example of points rentres or color shading/ hatching which is so distant of this period. Lined and edged in a period metallic scalloped galon. |
