Ottoman panel woven of cut silk velvet pile on a cotton ground, the usual
construction for
Turkish velvets, adapted from techniques developed by Italians. Featuring
a large and bold
design with a central lobed flower with pinecones and elongated tulips,
a native Turkish flower,
in ogival undulating branches. Circa 1500, Turkish probably Bursa, padded
and mounted for
hanging, edged in a 19th century gold metal galon. |
