A
rare Italian 1919 Mariano Fortuny border of a densely woven cotton twill.
A deep forest green Moorish design on a silver ground with motifs of foliage,
bows and flowers within interconnecting geometric frames. The stamp on
this border means "Societa Anonima Fortuny" signifying it was
from a joint-stock company of 1919 where he was in partnership with Giancarlo
Stucky. (This border can be found in the Museum
of Capodimonte in the Titian room, formerly the National Museum of Naples.
You can
also see this border depicted in a picture in Fortuny’s book Mariano
Fortuny: His Life
and Work on page 152, upper left picture.) |
