A
French or Italian 1710 - 30 silk and silver metal brocaded lampas cover
with
symmetrical patterns of flower and leaves on a melon/orange silk ground.
Patterns such
as these were typically nicknamed “ lace patterns” for they
generally included areas of
small scale diaper ornament that were creamy white in color and formed
of bands and
ribbons reminiscent of lace trimmings. Edged in a creamy white silk
trim and fully lined
with a coordinating green silk.
