Early 18th century French Aubusson tapestry depicting griffins and urn

An early 18th century French Aubusson tapestry fragment that was more
than likely meant to be used as a border to a larger tapestry. This
fragment depicts a central urn bordered on either side with winged
griffins and scrolling acanthus leaves and flowers. Woven in colors of
pink, cream and rust on a black ground that really make them pop.
Edged with an 18th century tarnished metallic gold galon with a scalloped
floral design all on black velvet, finished with a gold metallic cording.
Excellent clean condition and ready for use. (2 available)

The French are known for their use of griffins and can be found on Notre
Dame high up on each corner. The griffin was often thought to have been
a protective symbol, representing strength and vigilance.
