A rare French, 17th century, metal and silk embroidered fragment with flowers and leaves. The ground is entirely covered in a silver metal that has patina down with age. The ground stitching is worked in a zigzag stitch with eight different types of pattern designs on raised areas of stumpwork. Edged with an 18th century silver metal torchon lace and a French green silk ribbon all on a macadamian colored silk velvet. Finished with a silver metallic cord.
