A
17th century French Aubusson tapestry fragment depicting a classical
figurehead in a roundel of flowers and foliage. This piece is an excellent
rendition
of a Wedgwood blue jasper bisque portrait in a woven tapestry. Edged with
an
18th century silk, silver and gold galon scalloped trim from Brussels
and finished
with a dark patina gold metal fringe trim. Backed with silver/gray silk
velvet. Condition:
Old repairs done in white rather than blue around the figurehead
ground. One old repair on the bottom of tapestry that pulled the ground
weave
but doesn’t detract from the overall front design. Otherwise in
wonderful
condition for age; colors are in bright, fresh condition.
