Classical
17th century French verdure silk and wool tapestry pillow depicting
a central urn sitting on a
pedestal with gourds among leaves and foliage. Bordered on the top and
bottom with twining ribbons with
centered flowers. Brighter in color with the leaves more boldly depicted
than your typical verdure in colors
of blue, green, beige, brown and with highlights of red. Edged with
an 18th century gold metallic tape that
has darkened to a rich bronze patina with a circular design that mimics
the gourds in the tapestry.
Finished with 19th century 3 1/2”
bronze colored metallic fringe trim, all on beige silk velvet.
Condition: Old restorations and showing
a bit of its 400-year history with some missing silk threads,
which is consistent with age, this tapestry is still strong. The metallic
tape is showing its age as well with
rough edges but blends beautifully with the overall effect of the pillow.
