An amazing early
19th century design of cut, uncut and voided silk velvet with gold metallic
threads of an Italian 16th century design made in Krefeld, Germany, also
known as the town of silk and velvet as these are the fabrics that left
their mark on the towns’ history for being produced. . The design
is made up of interconnected ogival that are joined with crowns and centered
with leaves and flowers. A similar original design of this pattern can
be seen at item #LP73F09. Backed with a coordinating designer green silk
velvet, edged with 19th century gold metallic 3 ½” long eyelash
fringe.
Although there is little silk weaving in
Germany today, the dyeing, printing and finishing of silk has
remained an active industry.
