A glorious Italian
silk Cisele voided velvet fragment from the second half of the 16th century.
The design is
made up of interconnected ogival that are joined with crowns of darken
gold thread. Each ogival has a
central floral motif of cut silk velvet and darken gold metal thread on
a cream colored silk ground. Edged
with a small 18th century red silk and metal thread fringe, all on red
Scalamandre silk velvet. Finished
around the outside with a small metallic cording and early 19th century
metal tassels, the header of which
has a basket weave design. The metal thread on this fragment appears to
be silver but is actually gold, it
darkens over time. Condition: While faded, which is to be expected from
something over 400 years old, it
still has great presence just a stunning piece of history. |
